Marshmallow is one of my favorite herbs! I love growing it in my garden and I like to use the leaves and flowers as well as the roots. Marshmallow root brings soothing relief for people experiencing painful digestive issues or it can be mixed with cinnamon for little ones with sore throats.
Some of you maybe aware that marshmallow root is what sweet marshmallow treats were originally made from sweet earthy marshmallow root, I've been wanting to make real marshmallows with real root for quite sometime I have manage to put together this delicious recipe with a sweet herbal twist with the added benefits of elderflower and rose.
How to Make Elderflower, Rose & Marshmallow Root Marshmallows
What you’ll need…
1 1/4cup rose hydrosol
1 cup elderflower tea
1 tablespoon marshmallow root powder
4 cups organic icing sugar
4 tablespoons unflavored gelatin
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Add 1 tablespoons of marshmallow root to 1 cup of rose hydrosol whisk and let sit for 10 mins
Boil water and steep elderflowers in 1 cup hot water for five minutes, squeeze and remove storks, you can leave the flowers in the tea
Dissolve 4 tablespoons gelatin with 1 cup of hot elderflower tea mixing it with a hand mixer.
In a saucepan, mix the 1 cup of rose hydrosol and marshmallow root with 4 cups of icing sugar and 1 pinch of salt, stir until it boils and cook for approximately 8 minutes.
Turn off the heat and add the syrup to the gelatin, add 1 teaspoon of vanilla, 1/4 cup of rose hydrosol and mix with a hand mixer until the mixture cools and thickens.
Arrange the mixture into a greased baking sheet covered with parchment paper and dusted with icing sugar. Refrigerate for 4 hours.
